- The US puts missiles in Turkey and aims them at the Soviet Union. This makes the Soviet Union uneasy.
- Leftist revolutionary leader Fidel Castro becomes the president of Cuba (the US doesn't like him). The Soviet Union and Cuba become allies. The Soviet Union puts missiles in Cuba aimed at the US in response to the missiles the US put in Turkey and to increase their nuclear power.
- Bay of Pigs: The USA's CIA attempted to overthrow Fidel Castro. The CIA trained Cuban refugees to kill the president, but they failed. The Cuban armed forces cornered the Cuban refugees that were with the US and the refugees had to surrender.
- Shake hands the Soviet Union will remove missiles in Cuba, and the US won't invade Cuba.
- The US president John F. Kennedy found out that the Soviet Union was providing Cuba with aid and was building missiles in Cuba, he tried to figure out what to do. President Kennedy and his advisors decided to build a ring of ships around Cuba (naval blockade). He ordered for the removal of missiles in Cuba.
- The Soviet Union's ships sailed just outside the blockade. Tensions were high and Americans thought their country was on the brink of nuclear war. An American spy plane was shot over Cuba. No one was sure how the Soviet Union would respond to the naval blockade and US demands, but the US and Soviet Union didn't want a nuclear war, so they made a deal.
- If the Soviets take out the missiles in Cuba the United States wouldn't invade Cuba. In a separate, secret deal the United States also agreed to remove its nuclear missiles from Turkey. This was the end of the Cuban Missile Crisis.
