- Taxes have been a major part of U.S history. One of the main reasons the thirteen colonies began to rebel against Britain was because of unfair taxation.
- I am from the future. I would like to know more about your taxing situation.
- Hello!
- Good day. Who are you? We haven't seen you around town before.
- The whiskey tax taxed whiskey. Unfortunately, there was a rebellion of farmers against the tax in 1794. The tariff tax of 1832 was used as a protective tariff that taxed important goods. This tariff benefited the North, but not Southern farmers. This caused Andrew Jackson to remove the tariff in 1833. There is also a tax on our income.
- In 1788, the Constitution was ratified because there was not enough revenue going to the Unites States government. After the Revolutionary War and the war of 1812, we were faced with a lot of debt. That's when they put the whiskey and tariff tax in place.
