- In 1829 Johann Wolfang Dobereiener discovered 3 different families of elements that all had similar chemical properties. He called these three groups Dobereiner triads. but dobeneir could only identify 3 triads in the periodic table at the time meaning his way of classifying the elements failed.
- After dobnerier failed attempt to classify the elements a British chemist called Newlands atempted to classify the elements based on their atomic mass. he ordered the peiodic table in asscending order in atomic mass. he suggested that every eighth elemnt had similar properties after being arranged like musical octaves. newlands decided to name his method the newland octaves. but even newlands method didnt work as his method only worked for elements before calcuim so his method of classifying the elemnts on the periodic table was also a fail.
- after newlands failed attempt Dmitri Mendeleev created a periodic table called the mendeleev periodic table. his table had all the elements ordered by their atmoic mass and properties an incresing order creting a periodic table of all 63 elements known at the time. in mendeleevs table he called the horizontal rows on his table period, and the vertical colunm was called groups. there were seven periods and eight groups. in mendelleevs periodic table he left 3 blank spaces for new discoveries of elements. although mendeleevs periodic table worked there were some flaws meaning it needed improvement.
