- unchecked ambition/power leads to negative consequences
- “If the assassination could trammel up the consequence, and catch With his surcease success; that but this blow Might be the be-all and end-all here,”(Macbeth. I.vii. 2-5.) With his ambition to be king, MacBeth now realizes he will need to continue to kill.
- “Had I but died an hour before this chance, I had lived a blessed time, for from this instant There’s nothing serious in mortality”(Macbeth.II.iii.86-89). Macbeths desire to be king ruined his life because he is now a murderer and he’s aware that there’s nothing to live for.
- “For mine own good, All causes shall give way. I am in blood Stepped in so far that, should I wade no more”(Macbeth.III.iv 135-137). he's saying that he's so far deep that he can't do anything to fix it and will kill more.
- “Show his eyes and grieve his heart. Come like shadows; so depart”(Macbeth.IV.i.110-111)! his ambition caused him to go back to the witches and he found out about a lot of bad stuff.
- “Let fall thy blade on vulnerable crests; I bear a charmèd life,which must not yield To one of women born”(Macbeth.V.viii.11-13). He's so brave that he won't die because he thinks he’s invincible. Macduff kills him because he was not born of a woman.
