- The disagreement between the East patriarch did not like the practice of using unleaved bread for the sacrament of communion which starts tension between the two leaders.
- As the leader of Rome I am excommunicating you and the rest of the Eastern Church.

- The pope of the West suggests that they don't like how the wording of the Nicene Creed is so he talked to the East patriarch about the change. The Pope also states that the clerics in the Nicene Creed should be celibate. This tension between the two get closer.

- The leader of Rome talks to the Patriarch saying that he and the rest of the Eastern Church will be excommunicated. This starts the separation between the East and the West
- As the patriarch from the East was excommunicated he went out and started his own branch of Christianity the Eastern Orthodox. He and the Pope now started their own branch separating the two from one another.
- The two branches of Christianity started their own branch while still believing in the same things, while still being distant from one another.
