  • A few years after the War of 1812, a victorious feeling came over the nation. In addition, political unrest came to a temporary end with there only being the Democratic-Republican candidates. Consequently, James Monroe was elected president.
  • Missouri Compromise
  • Lets go baby I'm free!
  • Runaway slaves and Seminoles lived in villages in Northern Florida, and were forced out of their land by US troops. Seminoles retaliated, raiding US settlements in Georgia. Consequently, Jackson sent military personnel in to seize the Northern land in Florida.
  • Monroe Doctrine
  • The economy in the US began to collapse in 1819, after the need for industrial and agricultural goods among Britain and France decreased drastically. This was due to the end of war between the two countries. The banks demanded immediate payment from land owners, causing a banking crisis.
  • Election of 1824
  • Everyone wants me to win!
  • In 1820, a compromise was passed between the southern and northern states that Missouri is a slave state, and the addition of Maine created a balance between slave states and free states. All soil North of Missouri was to be free soil.

  • The Monroe Doctrine was a warning to the European nations that the US will no longer participate in any colonization or puppet monarchs. Our president at the time, James Monroe, was adamant that the US become fully independent.
  • Europe has no say in what we do!
  • The election of 1824 was considered to be a corrupt bargain. Andrew Jackson beat John Quincy Adams in both the popular and electoral vote, yet when the vote went to the House of Representatives, John Quincy Adams was elected via another candidate who happened to be the Secretary of State.
