  • One major theme of "the monsters are due on maple street" by rod sterling is that fear and suspicion are destructive. For example everyone that lived on maple were scared and desperate to find out who the monster was so the residents began to blame anyone for any reason that they could because they didn't want people to think it was them. Another reason one of the major themes were "Fear and suspicion are destructive" is because Charlie shot Pete Van Horn because he didn't know it was him. He shot him and people began to say things like "...you knew it was him." and "What if hes the monster?" and they started to attack him and threw rocks at his home. Which takes me to my next piece of evidence. After Charlie was accused of being the monster, he begged them to let him tell them who the monster was, Charlie was frightened, panicked and told all the residents on maple street that the monster was the kid he said, "Look, look I swear to you...it isn't me...but I do know who it is... I swear to you, I do know who it is. I know who the monster is here. I know who it is that doesn't belong. I swear to you I know," then he said " It's...It's...It's the kid. It's Tommy he's the one!" after hearing this the residents chased the little boy and no one knew what to do and their entire street turned into complete chaos. In conclusion The best theme you can use to describe this teleplay is "Fear and suspicion are destructive"
