Armentina Ross (Harriet Tubman) was born into slavery in 1819 or 1820. At the age of 6 she was considered old enough to work. Although she didnt start straight in the fields she started of by weaving.
Take this and find these people. Go to the first house ...................
At the age of eleven she was not counted as a child so she wore a bright bandana. and she was no longer known by her "basket name". So she would now be called Harriet.
She got married to John Tubman who was a free African American and she wanted to escape north but John did not want to come. So in 1849 she escaped.
Well done!
Harriet was then given a piece of paper with 2 names on it from their white neighbor. The neighbor then told her how to get to the first house on her path to freedom.
At the first house she was put into a wagon covered with a sack and driven to her next destination. She then hitched a ride with a woman and her husband who were passing by.
She learned about the underground railway and later in that year she became the conductor.
