- Fredrick Douglass was born a slave in 1818. During the 1830's he taught himself and other slaves around him to read and write. He was firm on education and wanted to fight for his ideals and morals. 1838 He believed it was time to escape and succeed this time once and for all.
- I must escape once and for all. My 2 previous attempts were a complete fail. This time it won't be like this. Change will happen. I deserve my rights.
- Fredrick came in contact with Anna Murray. She could help him escape. She wanted him to take the train going from Baltimore to Philadelphia posed as a sailor. He could get a ticket from a freed black sailor and use his knowledge to help fake being a sailor.
- Psst. Think you can help me out?
- Maybe... Meet me by the train station headed to Philadelphia. You must come posed as a sailor. I have papers to help you leave.
- Fredrick had made in on the train to Philadelphia. He had to use his self taught knowledge to help him fit in and not get caught.
- I can't believe I made it on the train. Ok I just have to act normal and use my knowledge on sailors to converse with these people
