  • Hello, I just wanted to take my cat Dexter in today, her breathing has been wheezy and sneezing more than normal. She's also having trouble eating and spits her food out.
  • Oh dear! Come with me we'll get you in a room and the vet will be there to help in no time.
  • About a week ago she has been coughing and her nose was all runny. This Wednesday she didn't seem like she wanted to eat much.
  • Well.. Dexter has been experiencing breathing issues and struggles to eat her wet food.
  • Hello! Why did you bring Dexter into the clinic today?
  • Alright, when did you notice this change in her breathing and eating?
  • I'm.. Not sure, they didn't tell me what she was vaccinated for.
  • No, this is her first time at the vet ever. I adopted her about a year ago.
  • Have you brought Dexter to our clinic before?
  • Alright, do you know if she is up to date on all her vaccines?
  • Okay, one moment we will go check.
  • Oh.. Is she going to be okay?
  • Calicivirus? What does that do for her?
  • Okay, so we checked her record and she has had her FVR, rabies, and her feline distemper vaccine. But not her Calicivirus vaccine.
  • She will be fine, it's just an upper respiratory virus that causes a lot of discomfort. That is why we have the FCV Vaccine to prevent further progress of the virus.
  • Well this particular virus attacks the upper respiratory system, which would explain her coughing and wheezing. Her having problems eating may be the chance of her having mouth ulcers caused by irritation and is in pain.
  • Oh well that makes sense! Thank you for all your help. Hopefully Dexter can get over her symptoms and feel better!
  • Well that's good.. How come she needs to get so many shots often?
  • Fortunately she tested negative for said virus, but remember it is always important to get vaccines before symptoms begin showing. Today we can give her the FCV Vaccine today but you will have to return for the next in three years, as that's how long the vaccine lasts.
  • She needs vaccines depending on whether she gets them yearly or monthly is so we can ensure that she builds up an immunity to these diseases.
  • Anytime! We will see you back in a few months!
  • Over the course of the next two weeks since Max took Dexter to the vet for her coughing and getting a vaccine for FCV, Dexter has overall been breathing better and is eating like a champ!
