- Someone who is a firm believer in God would want to be in gods good graces and not be on his bad side. If someone does something that is not good, it is considered a sin, meaning they have gone against God and strayed onto the wrong path. To get back in the right direction, people must confess their sins and reconcile. By this, they must ask for forgiveness from God, and since God has chosen his servants on earth to carry out his forgiveness, a person would speak with a priest to be forgiven. The benefits of reconciling are that a person would be forgiven, returned into God's good graces, and be righteous once again and a good servant of God.

- The main symbol for the sacrament is the laying on of hands – the priest may place a hand on the forehead and trace the cross with his finger or raise his hands and perform the sign of the cross. The ritual of confessing our sins, asking forgiveness, and saying our penance (Prayers) is the main ritual seen when someone is trying to reconcile with God and rebuild their relationship with Him.

- The sacrament of reconciliation celebrates the forgiving of one's sins. Reconciliation is celebrated by the sinner entering a church and speaking to a priest about their sins. The priest says to the person confessing and forgives the usually by placing their hand on the sinner and absolving them of their sins with gods grade.
