  • Oh, I see. Please continue with your explanation.
  • The group was also accredited for campaigning against the harassment of police officers. Despite its obvious attention, the group's image was marred by a lot of violence that included a standoff between them and the US authorities.
  • It lasted more than 71 days at Wounded Knee on the Pine Ridge reservation. It is also alleged that they killed two FBI agents. The group did not stay for long; in 1993, they broke infightings that led to their split into two factions.
  • How about the goals of AIM? Could you please explain them?
  • These goals were summed up into two main objectives which is ensuring that the Native American's rights were protected and the second objective or goal was that the Native American's cultural and spiritual independence was perpetuated.
  • Yes! The AIM leaders formed the group to speak out against racist treatment, unemployment, slum housing, advocate for Indians who lived in urban centers in poverty and illness, reclamation of all ancestral or tribal lands, and even fight for treaty rights.
  • Therefore, the American Indian Movement Foundation was formed to advance these two main goals or objectives that affected the lives of all Native people.
  • Besides that, the spiritual leaders helped in educating Indians alongside raising legitimate concerns that went beyond their ancestral or tribal problems. Therefore, the religion helped shape issues or concerns of the ancestral groups beyond pan-Indian ambitions.
  • How about the roles of religion in AIM? Do you know the role that religion played in AIMs principles and goals?
  • Besides that, the spiritual leaders helped in educating the Indians alongside raising legitimate concerns that went beyond their ancestral or tribal problems. Therefore, the religion helped shape issues or concerns of the ancestral groups beyond the pan-Indian ambitions.

  • Thank you for the information! I have learned a lot from you!
  • No problem! Let's catch up again next time!
