- After racing, Epaphus is not in a good mood after losing to Phaethon. When Epaphus brings up the topic of his amazing father, Zeus, the two boys start to reveal their own competitive personalities. Phaethon feels the need to talk back and prove that he had a just as good father as Epaphus.
- Exposition
- You think you're pretty good but you're not so much, my father's Zeus!
- Yeah well my father's Apollo, god of the sun!
- When hearing about Epaphus's good relationship with his father and the things he has tried with him, Phaethon tells a white lie about his and his father's relationship to get on the same level as Epaphus.
- Rising Action
- I think you're lying! What if it's your father driving?
- No I'm not! I'll show you! I'll drive the chariot above your roof three times in a circle. Then you'll know it's me!
- He even taught me how to drive the chariot of the sun!
- Father, I want to drive the chariot of the sun, by myself, from dawn to night!
- After being taken to Apollo's palace when being save by his birds, Phaethon takes this time to ask his father if he could promise him a favor. Apollo promises on an unbreakable promise and is then forced by Phaethon to allow him to drive the chariot of the sun alone.
- But you promised!!!
- Yes father!
- Rising Action
- Do you hear yourself right now? You could die driving that by yourself! Only I can drive that chariot!
- Alright, fine. But you must be careful and never leave the middle path!
- His mind stuck on proving Epaphus wrong, Phaethon leads the chariot near the village, disregarding his father's rules. As he nears his town, the destruction occurs and he causes fires around the houses. Phaethon tries to move back which causes freezing the water and causing more ruckus.
- Climax
- I can't wait to see Epaphus's reaction to me driving the chariot!
- Denouement
- From up above, Zeus notices chaos near the village and looks at the chariot only to see an unfamiliar driver. Zeus sees it is not Apollo, per usual, and doesn't hesitate to strike Phaethon with a lightning bolt, instantly killing him.
- That's not Apollo...
- Resolution
- As Phaethon's sisters grieve his death, Apollo fails to calm them down. Losing patience, he turns them into trees, weeping willows to be exact, and lets them cry out their tears as sap. This destruction of Phaethon's mistake had been remembered forever from then on.
