- Winter of 1945,World War 2East Prussia, Joana, Klaus, Heinz, Ingrid, and eva along with thousands of other refugees are walking the coast to escape the russians. On their way, they find a dead Lithuanian girl and they take her identification papers.

- Gotenhafen, 1946Ingrid and Heinz reach a checkpoint and the nazi questions Ingrid weather or not she can see, she is blind so she lies to avoid arrest, Heinz distracts the guard by offering to repair his shoes.

- 23 years later..in a nice house Florian and Joana are now married and are raising their children. Florian, later reads a letter from a woman who discovered Emilia's raft on her beach in Denmark a month after the ship sank. She offers comfort and assures Florian that his “savior” is at peace, buried under a bed of roses.
- That’s great news is she okay?
- She sadly passed but she is in peace now.
