- Manuel is walking home from his uncle's house and find a fox, he notices that it's hungry and gives it the rest of his food. He just thinks that it's a regular fox this foreshadows information that is later told in the story.
- When Manuel came home, he found his mother lying on the bed . He asked the doctors that were there and they said that it was just a stroke. There was a priest there and he said that he can pray. This made Manuel very sad.
- When Manuel was at school, he was very worried about his mother and didn't focus in class that day. The teacher called him over and asked him what was wrong, Manuel explained that his mother had a stroke and he couldn't focus. The teacher said that he wouldn't call on him for the rest of the day.
- When Manuel came home from school, he encountered a woman named Tomiko. She said that she'll be taking care of his mother. He was a little bit confused because she said that she was living in the desert and is still living in the area. but later on, he grew fond of her.
- one day, when Tomiko was in the garden, Manuel looked into the closet and found a fox skin and hid it in his room. The story changes because we realize that Manuel is a curious person but naive because he just wanted to see Tomiko's reaction.
- Shortly after Manuel took Tomiko's skin, he confronted him and told him to give her skin back he denied it and she left. The next day he felt bad about what he did and decided to give her her skin back and also help her dig with a shovel he brought.
