- Rebecca, a 14 year old chef, stole some fruits from a nearby market. The owner found out and pressed charges. This is an example of a juvenile case since Rebecca is a minor.
- Layla got hungry before she left to go to her job. She stopped at a restaurant and got some noodles, causing her to be 20 minutes late to her shift. This is an example of a military case, since she works at the military
- Emma, a college student bully, tells Clarrisa to meet her outside of school. She ends up fighting Clarrisa, causing her to suffer severe injuries. Clarrisa goes home and tells her mother, who takes this to court. This is an example of a criminal case.
- Alyssa ordered an iPhone online and was so excited to get it in the mail. At work, she showed it to all her co-workers. One co-worker, Michelle, accidentally dropped her phone on the floor, cracking the screen. Michelle refused to pay to fix the phone, so Alyssa took the matter to court. It is a civil case.
- Becky was upset about a new law. She decided to protest with friends in front of city hall. Police arrived and told them they had to leave. Becky explained they had a permit to be there and the freedom to express how they felt about this law. The officers still took the group into custody. It is a constitutional case.
- The Supreme Court is expected to rule on same-sex marriage during its current term; meantime,lower courts have been ruling on the constitutionality of state laws regarding same-sex marriage, overturning a number ofstate bans on same-sex marriage.
