  • Today we will be talking about a strategies both already used and new ideas on how to support sustainability in developing countries, especially post colonial countries
  • Both members of my team and I will be explaining how effective these strategies can be. This camera crew will go around the office. No place will be untouched
  • Honore
  • Post-colonial countries are countries that have once been colonies to European countries. Countries that have been most categorised as developed and the World's leaders had got there success of the natural riches of the colonies. the now independent colonies had no riches of their own, and some where left with unsteady and untrustful governments. Since some colonies before Interdependence didn't use the western way political way on how to lead a country, many countries suffered.
  • My colleague, Ann, mentioned the word "post-colonial countries". This is an important word to understand as our inviative is solely based on them at the moment.

  • Honore always knows what to say all the time. He's like a Human Computer, you can ask him about anything, he'll give you the answer in two seconds
  • Back to all seriousness, My piece is to tell you what sustainability is and why maintaining it is important nationally and therefore globally as well. Sustainability is the practice of using national resources responsible now, so then the future generations can have access to them. But as Honore mentioned, National resources in post-colonial countries are about slim to none. Now your thinking, why does the natural resources in these countries matter to me, personally. Well think about your phone...that's basically your whole life in a pocket, the car you drive everyday, even the air you breathe. This all has effects in your life, so this is a personal matter.

  • Thank you Leon, Let's talk about Over population that happens in these countries. Africa right now has the most highest total fertility rate (TFR). Africa is also an exporter of food. When there are more little humans running around in the world, they need shelter, a place to live in. making new homes and apartments for people cost land. Farmland for exact. Why is it an global issue. The NPR reported that 69 percent of food and farm supply of the US come from foreign countries. African countries included. A strategy that was brought up and used in the UN is introducing the different types of contraceptives. the usage of contraceptives can lower down the birth rates in these countries so therefore less farmland being used. But one thing to take note on this strategy is that we don't want the introduction of contraceptives to seem like we are conolaising them again. Before using this strategy, learn about the culture. See is maybe having a lot of kids is apart of the culture.

  • Let's talk about the air we breathe everyday and the correlation with decolonization. One Mature tree can absorb up to 48 pounds of CO2!! which is absolutely amazing. Forest full of trees are essential for helping our CO2 intake. The demands for tree products are skyrocketing at the moment. The population becomes more and more dense by the year. Major deforestation is happening in our earth. We need to protect our forests. The most obvious strategy that has been talked about and done is giving the land rights back to the Indigenous and rural communities. Indigenous and rural communities inhabit more than 50 percent of the world. Effects of colonization have stripped them of their ancestral land rights. Studies show that their territories have lower levels of deforestation. Our Strategy is to help give the land back to their rightful owners, who we know have natures best priority on their mind.

  • The Two strategies presented by Arizona and Hanna are one of the many we have. But before jumping in onto our other strategies , lets really dive in as to how these can be applied to work in the real word. And that's by using the 4 pieces of criteria for initavies. the four are Data, Partnerships, policy reform and lastly,impact/knowledge on the local communities. For our company our major points of criteria is data and the impact of local communities. To even do anything we need data, to show what needs to be done, recurring evidence, essentially facts for us to go on. Community partnership and understanding is a big one. We need to know what the community thinks, what they need, what's the culture like. Do they even want us there. We cannot impose in their community. During times of colonization, The communities has very slim to none control to what was happening to their land. That's the last thing we want happening. Knowledge happens both ways. We have to decolonize the thought that they are communities that are in desire need of our help
  • Leon mentioned that sustainability is also having
