  • Exposition
  • Gred Ridley. I ran away for a while because I'm mad at my dad. I thought this was a safe place.
  • AHHH! Who are you?
  • Well, I don't think you should stay here for too long. You should probably go home soon.
  • Lemon Brown. Who are you?
  • Come with me. There is a second floor to this building!
  • Rising Action
  • I have treasure. You ain't after me treasure, are ya?
  • We just wanna see that treasure o' yours.
  • Treasure? What treasure? Oh no! What was that noise?
  • Climax
  • So, this is my treasure. A harmonica that I gave to my son. They brought it back when he died in a war. What'cha think?
  • What do you mean? This has sentimental value kid.
  • So, your treasure is a lousy harmonica? Nothing of value?
  • Oh. I guess I never though of it like that.
  • I'm heading to east St. Louis tomorrow morning. It'd be for the best if you went home. I'll watch out the window to make sure you're safe on the way.
  • Greg Ridley has been lectured by his father about how his grades need to improve in order for him to be allowed to play basketball. Greg is angry and wants to be able to have freedom over his choices. He starts by sitting on the stoop of his building but then decides to go for a walk to clear his head. On his walk away from home, he meets Lemon Brown in an abandoned building that he decided to hide out in. Lemon Brown appeared frightening at first because of the suspicious sounds he made, but they grew closer as their time together grew.
  • Falling Action
  • I'll be fine. Didn't I tell you I'm getting away from here, where I won't be near those thugs again?
  • Okay. Are you sure you'll be alright though?
  • That sounds good. Goodbye.
  • Greg and Lemon were talking about Lemon's treasure when thugs approached the abandoned building. They hid together and bonded through the traumatic times of the thugs wanting Lemon's treasure. The thugs were very willing to hurt Lemon if he didn't hand his treasure over to them. They only had a pipe, but it was as powerful as a nuclear bomb against Lemon Brown (hyperbole and simile). The thugs looked and looked for Lemon with their flashlight. Soon after, the thugs left and Lemon and Greg were safe after Lemon threw himself down the stairs at them and they left.
  • Resolution
  • Wow. Today was an eventful day. I don't know if I should ever share this story, but I think it would be wise to just come home and act like nothing happened.
  • Here, take this pipe and go get him.
  • It really must have been my fate to run into this trouble, and learn to be grateful for my family, and not to take them for granted, because like Lemon Brown, you may not have them forever.
  • After the thugs left, Lemon started to explain his treasure to Greg. Greg didn't understand at first. Greg didn't realize that treasure could be anything other than something with currency value. This was a big turning point for Greg's thinking.
  • Theme
  • The thugs were gone, and both Greg and Lemon were safe. Lemon Brown explains to Greg that he is leaving the area and suggests that Greg should go home. Greg agrees and starts his walk home.
  • The rain had stopped, and Greg was on his way home. He didn't know whether he should tell his family about Lemon Brown, but he knew he would remember his story and the new definiton of treasure. He thought about the lectures from his father and smiled, continuing on his walk home.
  • Greg really learned how the sentimental value of things has an impact on how a person views something. People like Lemon Brown are a dime a dozen (idiom).
