- This makes John Proctor extremely angry, as he knows this is just another one of Abigail's lies to get what she wants. Elizabeth denies any association with witchcraft while John tries to convince Aligail to come clean and prove that Elizabeth is innocent. But Abigail refuses.
- Witchcraft?!Never!
- The day for Elizabeth to be hung arrives, so John tells the court that Abigail is lying and confesses that the reason behind her lying is because they used to have feeling for eachother. The court then decides that the only way John can save his wife's life is to confess to witchcraft and take her place.
- John discusses the conflict with Elizabeth and tells her that if he confesses his relationship with god and his reputation amongst the town will be ruined. Elizabeth agrees.
- John decides to not confess to witchcraft, so the court sentences him to hang. Along with saving his wife, John was a very trustworthy man and by not confessing he was able to die with his positive reputation and his name.
