- Desiree's Baby
- After Madame Valmonde left on her way to go see Desiree and the baby, she remembers the time her daughter Desiree was brought into her life. Desiree was an abandoned baby that Monsieur Valmonde found in the shadow of a big stone pillar. Desiree's husband had his biological parents but his mother had passed away when he was a young boy, in Paris

- As Madame Valmonde enters Desiree's house, she sees that the baby was dark-skinned and shockingly says to Desiree "This is not the baby!". Desiree continues to talk about how much the baby has changed but ignores what her mother actually meant. Desiree was nothing but happy, she said her husband Armand loved their boy and became calmer with the slaves after the baby was born.
- Once the baby was three months old, Desiree sensed that something was wrong. He became distant and began mistreating the slaves again. Armand had stopped talking to her because their baby was not completely white. She clutched his arm after he deliberately ignores her and asks, "look at our child. What does it mean? tell me" and he responds, "that the child is not white; it means you are not white".
- Desiree sends out a letter to her mom telling her how frustrated and saddened she was from the lies from people saying she was not white. Her mom tells her to go back home with the baby. Desiree goes to show Armand the letter her mom sent and she asks if she should go. He says she should and he wants her to go. Desiree painfully goes to get her baby and leaves.
- Desiree leaves the house and walks out on a deserted field. She left and never came back.
- As Armand burns all of Desirees and the baby's belonging, he finds a letter that was written by his deceased mother to his father. It turns out Armands mother was the one of African American descent. The theme of Desirees Baby is love is colorblind
