  • Intro
  • First and Second Verse
  • Pre-chorus
  • When the intro begins everything seems so peaceful and calm in the natural environment - soft and harmonious notes on the harp and piano emphasize this. Intervals are used after each line followed by a chord leading into the next. This allows the melody to have a smooth flow which I have represented with a flowing river. I can also hear the birds chirp in the background and because of the serenity I have chosen the setting of a forest. However towards the end of the intro the tempo slows down and ends with a minor note held down for longer.
  • Chorus
  • The tone of the piece quickly changes in the first and second verse as it becomes more somber and dull. It sounds like there is a rythymic ostinato - repeated riffs every four-counts symbolising the damage of the trees along with pauses for four counts deepening the words.I chose this image to resemble the previous forest abandoned and on the brink of collapsing providing a moment of reflection for the listeners.
  • Bridge
  • During the transition into the pre-chorus the pitch is increased as well as the background humming. There is a gradual rise in tempo and tone of voice which indicates the arrival of the chorus. The monophonic sound changes into homophonic which represents the trees changing personality and desperately screaming for help. A sense of tension builds up and places the light music into a denser atmosphere.
  • Outro
  • Once the chorus hits, the music reaches it's crescendo with an increase in tempo (allegro) and dynamics (forte). A dramatic composition where the percussions such as the tambourine and drums accompany the strings like the piano, harp and electric guitar. It is a coktail of instruments with distinguished timbre although smooth and in consonant harmony. This couldn't be better represented than with a burning forest which conveys the message of us humans destroying our planet.
  • The tempo suddenly drops for a few counts and then increases again and becomes louder and louder shaping an outcry for change and justice. That is why I have inserted a group of people standing up together for one another and the planet. A rock element is added to the pop as the drums take the centre stage accompanied by the backup vocals crying "What about us?"
  • The layers incuding the instrumnetation - percussions, strings and the vocals - main and backup come together repeating the chorus. Howver just seconds before the song is about to end the music comes to an abrupt yet peaceful stop. The first image that came to mind was a rainbow - the symbol of faith and hope for a better and brighter tomorrow. In this case the message is that all human activities can be reversed.
