- Jefferson wanted France and Great Britain to stop fighting but, all of his diplomatic efforts failed. So, Great Britain seized thousand American ships. Then, Jefferson proposed an embargo act to stop this .

- President Monroe decided to support New Latin American nations. However, other European leaders we not pleased with this. So, Monrow asked his former president´s advice resulting him to make a foreign policy.

- James Madison chose to abandon isolationism but merchants didn't want to trade to end. So, Congress declared war. Then eventually, British and Americans signed a peace treaty ending war.

- John Jay wanted the French to stop attacking U.S ships but they unfortunately refused. So, the French kept attacking U.S merchant ships. Resulting to the creation of the Jay Treaty.

- John Adams wanted the French to stop attacking his U.S ships. However, the French wanted tribute first. So, the U.S said no and launched a half war. Resulting France signing a treaty to stop attacks.
