We find evidences of the practices of the several art and craft forms by the people of the Indus Valley Civilization . These indicate the emergence of specialists , who are trained to do one kind of work like polishing beads, sculpting, making seals
People in Indus Civilization practiced animal husbandry. We domestic animals such as oxen, buffaloes, goats, sheep, and pig. Cats and dogs were regarded as pets. Asses and camels were used for transporting goods. Elephants were commonly found.
The remarkable thing about the arrangement of the houses in the lower town is that they followed the grid system. The rectangular town planning was not known to the other civilization. People used burnt bricks as building material. There are often two or more level, rooms constructed around a rectangular courtyard.
A Brick dockyard has been discovered at Lothal, Which the historians believe could have been one of the important ports of the Indus Valley Civilization.
To the west of each was the citadel fortified by crenellated walls. The citadel was usually based on a mound or at an elevated position. It was occupied by the ruling class. Below the citadel lay a lower town containing of brick houses, which were inhabited by the common people.
The Indus people practiced numerous other arts and crafts. Cloth Weaving and Pottery making were important as well.
