Much Ado About Nothing

- A soldier brings the news to Leonato and his family that his friend, Don Pedro will be stopping by at their house. They are very happy.
- Claudio confesses his love for Leonato's daughter, Hero, to Don Pedro and Benedick. Benedick does not approve of this because he believes they should both remain bachelors for the rest of their lives. Don Pedro, however, is quite pleased with this news and offers to help 'woo' Hero for Claudio at the masked ball later that evening. Unfortunately, the servant had misheard all of this, and runs to Antonio, Leonato's brother.
- The only part of the message that the servant gives Antonio is that Don Pedro is going to try and 'woo' Hero for himself. Antonio confides the news in Leonato who decides he will not consider it to be true until he speaks to Hero himself.
- Meanwhile, Don John, Don Pedro's half brother, is speaking to his servant, Conrad who advises him not to cause trouble as he has only just reignited his friendship with Don Pedro after a long feud. In comes Borachio declaring that he too, heard Don Pedro and Claudio's plan. Don John doesn't very much like Claudio and despite Conrad's advice, begins to think up an evil plan.
- At the masked ball, Benedick tries his chances at dancing with Beatrice, his long turn enemy. However, she is clever and knows it's him. Instead of just dancing, she rudely insults him, leaving him running off to sulk.
- Don John tries to trick Claudio into thinking that Don Pedro is trying to 'woo' Hero for himself, and being gullible, Claudio believed it. However, Don Pedro's 'wooing' appears to have been successful and Hero agrees to marry Claudio. There is a remark made as to who Beatrice should marry, which leads to Don Pedro offering himself up. Unfortunately for him, she declines.
