- During a shipwreck, 2 twins were separated. The woman, Viola, believes his brother Sebastian drowned. She is now in a new country, Illyria, where she disguises as a young servant to protect herself. She names herself Cesario.
- Sir Andrew, Festw, Sir Toby, Maria, Cesario
- Cesario, now employed by the Duke of Illyria, Orsino, learns about his love towards Olivia (a rich countess) whom does not love him back. Cesario is sent to convince Olivia to meet the Duke Orsino. The two men have a strong relationship, they trust each other.
- When Cesario goes to see Olivia, she falls in love with him. There is a love triangle, Orsino loves Olivia. She loves Cesario and he loves Orsino. This is an impossible situation as nobody knows Cesario is woman.
- Cesario finally meets with the ‘unserious’ characters: Feste, Sir Andrew, Sir Toby (knights) and Maria (Olivia’s servant); they all bring some humor to the play. These characters disturbes Olivia’s household but Malvolio tries to calm them down. They decide to kick out Malvolio from the household.
- When Cesario returns to Olivia’s house, she flirts with him. Sir Andrew rises suspicions as he is dating Olivia (even though it does not look like it). He decides to duel with Cesario.
- After Malvolio has been tricked, Olivia is shocked and confused as she is dressed wildly like ‘asked’ in the letter Maria sent her. Olivia, not knowing what is going on, asks Maria and Sir Toby to look after her where they send her in dark room.
