  • Andrew has questions about the time he and his family were involved with Cafcass. Andrew decided to ask Cafcass what information they can tell him.

  • So he wrote an email to Cafcass and asked for all of his information, this is called a Subject Access Request (SAR)He attached his ID and proof of address to help Cafcass find his information.
  • Response to your SAR
  • Lewis is a Customer Services Officer at Cafcass and he was happy to read Andrew's email. Lewis contacted Andrew and asked for Andrew's Mum and Dad's names and dates of birth. This information helped Lewis to find Andrew's information and he started the SAR.
  • Andrew's SAR took longer than 1 month because there was a lot of information for Lewis to go through. When Andrew's SAR was finished, Lewis sent an email with all of the documents that he was allowed to see. Along with a letter attached which explained what was in his SAR and offered support if Andrew needed anything else explained.
  • Lewis kept in regular email contact with Andrew and Andrew was offered support to understand his SAR either in a phone call or by email.
  • Andrew knows he can contact Lewis at any time to discuss his SAR or to contact Cafcass if he has any questions surrounding the reasons why his family were supported by Cafcass at court.
