- Patrick Henry was giving his speech to the people that were in change at the time when the 13 colonies were still part of the British. Henry was trying to show them that they needed to see what was happening and not try just to hide the bad things that are happening.He feels like he has betrayed them but being the one to tell them what they should do.
- " We have done everything that could be done to avert the storm"
- Henry wants his audience to look and take action for what they are causing and to do something to fix it and end the decisions that are happening. he is wanting to know whats happening and why their just letting things happen. That he wants to know whats going on so that he an try to help, and get them out of there situation.
- " if we wish to be free, we must fight"
- Henry wants them to know that not ever thing that the king sends them and tells them (the 13 colonies) might not be the truth or not what is actually going on, Henry compared what is happening to a kiss telling them not to be "betrayed be a kiss" and not see what is going on. Another thing he wants them to know that its not the first time the king has done something wrong, He doesn't know if the speech is going to work and can only look at the past to know what to do in the future.
- " give me liberty or give me death!"
- They have been arguing for over ten years and that some one will always be arguing and that it will never stop that they as a whole need to take it in there own hands and do something for themselves because if not there will be no change. Henry is telling that they have tried ever thing so that they don't start a war or some type of conflict.
- People are starting to see what is happening and that they don't like what is happening so they want British to know if they are not heard what they are saying they are going to take action for themselves. Henry is letting them know that they are done talking and seeing nothing get done that they will fight if they need to.
- Henry is using ethos and wanting them to know that he doesn't want to just sit and wait to see what is going to happen he wants them to feel the way he does so that they are on the same page. Henry wants them to help him fight for there freedom. and that there need to fight for what there believe.
