- The story opens with the antagonist, who is also the narrator, telling the listener that he can prove his sanity by how calmly he can tell us how he murdered an old man. the narrator is unreliable because he claims that he has a disease that allows him to hear things from heaven, the earth, and in hell but when he contradicts himself by saying he can healthily tell the story. he tells us what his motivator for murder is simply the old mans vulture eye.
- Climax
- the narrator stalks the old man every night for 7 nights by shining a lantern into the old mans room to see if the "vulture eye" opens lantern torse if eye is open. In the morning the narrator would ask if the old man would sleep good so he would know if the old man expects anything on the 8th night the narrator gets cocky and bursts out a small laugh waking up the old man.
- Falling Action
- the narrators hand slips on fastening the lantern where the old man sees and yells "WHOS THERE" and stays up for hours till the narrator hears his "heartbeat" which he feared the neighbors will hear.
- Resolution
- The narrator smothers the old man and kills him by quickly grabbing him off the bed and then grabs the big heavy mattress suffocating the man.
- AHHHHHH
- after killing him the narrator then brings the corpse inside the bath tub where he chops up the body and washes the blood down the drain after he does that he then hides the body parts in the floorboard. the police then get a call from the neighbors who hear a shriek the old man let out and the police come.
- HAHAHA IM SO SMART
- the three policeman then investigate the whole house while the narrator with joy and confidence brings out chairs so they can chat the narrator puts chair over the corpse. overtime the narrator guilty conscious takes over and he feels the "the heartbeat of the old man" which then drives him insane where he starts acting crazy and throwing chairs yelling while the police officers ignored him or so he thought which turned him more mad causing him to think they already know therefore making him confess
- HAHAHAHAH
- so that's when my wife said.....
- Stop it you villain's I confess!!!
