  • EDUCATION REFORM 1837
  • Hello, today I am interviewing people about the Education Reform. It occurred in 1837. This was a big deal because it allowed young women to and Native Americans to attend public school. It also encouraged each state to establish a public school system. Lets go back in time and ask some major people some questions.
  • I am with one of the amazing students that got to come to school because of the reform. How has the reform Changed your life?
  • The reform has changed my life in many, many ways. I now get to go to school and make friend. I also love that I have the opportunity to learn new things and have new experiences. Before the reform I did not have anything to do so I would go out in my free time and I would try to find something to do, normally not very legal.
  • Well, you see, even if you are different gender, or you are a different race, you still deserve a quality education. If some people are not in school and preoccupied, they decide to steal, destroy property, and set fires. This is not good.
  • I'm here with John Quincy Adams, now tell me, why do you think there is a need for public schools?
  • I'm here with Horace Mann and he was the reformer of the Education Reform. Tell us a little bit about yourself.
  • Well may name is Horace Mann as you have already established. I grew up in Franklin, Mass. I grew up on a farm so as you can imagine, I was constantly working on the farm. I loved to go to the library and get books. Just like my parents I love to gain knowledge. When I was older I realized that not everybody got the opportunity to go to a public school and gain knowledge. That is when I decided to make a difference.
  • Are you happy that my crew and I were able to get you into school?
  • I am so grate I can't even begin to describe how happy, excited, and proud I am of you because you were able to make a national difference for people all over the world.
