Ruth called Patty to inform her that her father wanted to talk to her. Patty was scared by this news since she didn't do anything wrong . Ruth noticed that she was nervous and decided to remind her of what to do. She was worried that they would take her ring away from her, so she left it with Ruth and went to her room to wait for her father.
As her father entered the room he entered with another strange man.The FBI had gone to her house to ask her questions involving Anton. Her father told her to tell the truth of what she had done. She answered the questions that the FBI man asked, and even tried to lie to protect Anton. She lied to protect him until she had found out that he was shot, and killed.
Once learning about Anton's death she confessed to everything. Which got her arrested for helping a war criminal. She and her father got into an argument, where he accused of the man touching Patty. The argument ended up with him firing Ruth, and Patty was devastated. Her father also decided to send her to Memphis Tennessee, to get help from a lawyer.
Once Patty had finished packing her things she left with the FBI men to leave town. Everyone in town had found out that she took in a war criminal through the papers. She was harassed by many. All the people yelled, threw things at her and even almost attacked her various times. The only ones who were nice to her were one of her friends and the sheriff who gave her a bible.
Patty was taken to live in her grandparents house until she could go back home. Her grand parents took care of her and even drove her to the office for the FBI men to ask her questions. Her grandparents didn't judge her, they even defended her. Even thought she took in a war criminal they were still understanding.
In Memphis she sat in the office and answered the men's questions. They were all the same answer. it went on like this until she got news that her parents were being harassed back home.
