Annmarie Johansen and her friend Ellen Rosen are running to school when they are stopped by a Germen soldier .

The Germen soldiers have forced all the Jews, including Ellen Rosen and her family to give them their names, to be soon sent to concentration camps .

The Johansens help smuggle the Rosens on Uncle Henrik's boat to Sweden at night.
DENOUEMENT
Uncle Henrik dropped his special handkerchief. Now Annmarie has to run all the way to the docks and hand it to him with out raising suspicion . She is stopped by guards who search her basket and throw everything on the ground. She is terrified, but is allowed to pick up the items and continue on.
Uncle Henrik gets the handkerchief just in time. Soon the German soldiers and their dogs come to inspect his boat. The handkerchief contains cocaine, which numbs the dog's sense of smell.
Five years later, the war ended! Annmarie remembers Elle. Sadness and joy raises over her, but she enjoys the thought of Ellen being safe .
