- What is that?
- Its where families (mostly in Mexico) celebrate the dead! One of their traditions is decorating cemeteries! Beforehand, family members clean the graves of the deceased. They decorate the graces with marigolds and candles, often placing ofrendas next to them.
- Families bring food for the families who have lost loved ones. It is usually Day of the Dead cookies, chicken tamales, chicken breasts, candied pumpkin, and hot chocolate. After the sugar skulls take shape, they are then decorated with icing, foil, ribbon, feathers, gems and more, but they are often placed on ofrendas or grave stones.
- Day of the Dead began as a traditional Mesoamerican celebration in southern Mexico. It runs through Nov. 1 -Nov, 2. On the 1st they celebrate the children who have passed and on the second the recognize the adults who have passed on. Family is very important on this holiday.
