  • Frederick Douglass was born in Maryland on a farm. His mom was also a slave, but had to work far away from Douglass. He is at a plantation place where he works as a slave. His master's name is Covey.
  • Frederick Douglass was fanning some wheat with some other slaves. The slaves were working all day in the hot arid sun. This job was not easy nor fun. He was also working with some other slaves named, Bill, Eli, and William.
  • As Douglass was fanning wheat, he fell to the ground feeling dizzy and overwhelmed. He had a headache and tried to get up to the basket. When he got there, he had no brawn to stand up again. He went under a tree to get some shade. When the fanning stopped, Covey got up and asked,"What happened here?" A slave answered," Frederick fell sick."
  • Covey walked over to Douglass and asked him what happened. Douglass did his utmost to explain to Covey what happened, but was also very sick to talk. Covey kicked Douglass and said in an vexed tone," Get UP!" Frederick attempted, but crashed down to the ground again. Covey said it again, more loudly. This time, Douglass got up but fell down after a few seconds. Now Covey was more vexed than ever, he then picked up a stick and hit Douglass in the head.
  • The stick that Covey hit with, hit Douglass a bad wound to deal with. Frederick was now done with this, he had no care for anyone now. Covey had then left, and now Douglass was left alone in the hot arid sun.
  • Douglass was a slave who had a cruel and torturous life. But he was a kind of man who told himself that he won't let himself get beaten up anymore without a fight. Later on, Douglass plans an escape and leaves slavery once and for all. He becomes a great author and makes books about his life and journey through slavery. But he does not mention how he had escaped because that will be a threat to him. So the lesson to learn is that you can get down in life, but you always stand up become more suprieror person.
