Utterson visits Dr Lanyon and finds out that Lanyon and Jekyll aren't taking due to Jekyll's research. Utterson decides to stake out the building where the child got trampled, " I never saw a man so distressed as you were about my will"

  •  Hyde gives Utterson his personal address, which implies that Hyde thinks Jekyll disappear soon. Utterson visits Jekyll. We find out the warehouse is actually Jekyll's lab and Jekyll's servants are controlled by Hyde. “but that in case of Dr. Jekyll's "disappearance or unexplained absence for any period exceeding three calendar months," the said Edward Hyde should step in Henry Jekyll"

  • Sir, I firmly believe this letter was written by the Dr. Jekyll himself.
  • At Jekyll party, Utterson confronts Jekyll and tells him he has recently been investigating Hyde and has found out a lot. This throws Jekyll off guard, and he makes Utterson promise to carry out his will that states Hyde would inherit all of Jekyll's assets.   •  1 year later, one of Jekyll's maids sees a Parliament member, Sir Danvers Carew beat to death by Mr Hyde. Utterson leads police to Hyde's address, where they find a burnt chequebook and the murder weapon. " Hyde broke out of all bounds and clubbed him to the earth"
  • Utterson visits Jekyll, and Jekyll shows him a letter from Hyde that says he plans to escape. Jekyll admits that Hyde dictated his will. Utterson takes the letter to a handwriting expert, and learns that the letter was actually written by Jekyll. " I have a document here in his handwriting; it is between ourselves, for I scares know what to do"
