  • Chuang Zhu and the Butterfly
  • ?
  • "Chuang Tzu in a dream became a butterfly" This is a reference to one of Zhuang Zi's many quotes. This philosophers words questioned consciousness far before many other. Li Po uses Master Zhuang's words to apply his quote into a sort of call to action
  • Who was real? The butterfly or the man, who is Chuang Tzu? Is consciousness#160;really this mysterious and unknown?#160;The answers to these questions would forever be untold.
  • Li Po starts to apply these questions:"Who can tell the end of the endless changes of things?" This line is a call out, an unanswerable question to a never ending problem. This problem being relatable to every living thing because every living thing changes.
  • The water that flows into the depth of a distant sea is a metaphor. Li Po is comparing the constant passage of time and change to water fading out of view. The water is not gonna stop flowing, and its consantly shifting and changing.
  • This man was once a prince, but now he is a peasant. Hes farming melons with his rank and riches gone.#160; This shows us that no matter how rich, how powerful, how high ranking you are. Your possesions are all temporary and will always be lost in time. ref. Ozymandious#160;
  • "Still you toil and toil, ---what for?" Li Po is basically saying that nothing is permanent and you should stop struggling. If your rank doesn't matter, if you don't know if you are in a dream or that your dreams are you. Why are you toiling, why are you sabatoging yourself so much.
