- Minli lives on fruitless mountain with her mother and her father. Her family is very poor and they work really hard just to feed themselves.

- Minli goes to find the old man of the moon and on her way there she meets a dragon. The dragon tells Minli his story about being born out of a painting. The dragon can't go through the forest because of the greedy monkeys.

- Minli has to go through the city of bight moonlight to meet the old man of the moon. In the city she meets a boy. He invited Minli to stay at his hut where he meets his friend. His friend tells him that the king of the city will be in the market tomorrow, so Minli finds the king of the city and gets further information on how to meet the old man of the moon.
- Chapters 40-48
- On their way to never ending mountain, Minli and the dragon encounter the Magistrate's tiger who attacks Minli. Luckily, the dragon defends Minli but ends up getting hurt himself. The dragon was severely poisoned by the tiger and needed immediate help. Fortunately, two twins happen to be coming by so they give the dragon healing medicine.
- Da a fu bring Minli to their home village (the city of moon rain) where they tell her the story of the green tiger then dragon comes back and he is well.f Da a Fu take Minli to see the Old man of the moon! Minli crosses a bridge of borrowed line.
- Minli asks the old man of the moon how dragon can fly and then he flies and it turns out he is Jade dragon's child and they reunite and fruitless mountain is now fruitful mountain!
