- In chapter 12, Holden is at Ernies restaurant and meets a girl who knew her brother he has the opportunity to take it further with her in the futur but instead he decides not to. He chose to spend the night alone then leading him to be depressed. This could signify him not wanting to grow up by not having to date but also leads to his loneliness of him pushing those he loves away.
- This chapter Holden has felt very depressed just from when he had walked by the bar till the end. He struggles with depression along with loneliness that is a major feeling of sadness and betrayal which is important because people need to realize that nobody is alone.
- When you're feeling very depressed, you can't even think
- Holden was attempting to get in touch with his brother who had passed. Because of the fact that he didn't believe in god it made him feel more alone and depressed.To fill his sadness he then was thinking about phoniness.
