- Maui was a Demi - God who lived in Hawaiiki. Yet, Maui had a few abilities that not all of his family knew about.
- One day Maui hid in the bottom of his brothers boat in order to go fishing with them. once he felt that he felt they were far enough out he soon discovered himself, the brothers were very mad at Maui but they were not able to take him back to shore as maui was using his powers making the shoreline seem much further then it was.
- So the brothers continued rowing, when they where far enough out Maui dropped his magic fishhook over the side of the waka after a long time Maui felt a strong tug but to strong to be a normal size fish, So Maui called his brothers over to help.
- After much pulling the surface of Te Ika a Maui know today as the North Island of New Zealand Maui said to his brothers God might be mad about this, and he asked his brothers to stay here well he went to make peace with God.
- However when Maui went to make peace with God his brothers started to began to argue among themselves about who gets to keep the new land. They took out their weapons and started pounding at the land the blows on the land created many mountains and valleys of the North Island today.
