Having dreams of becoming an astronaut while being born in Costa Rica was not easy. He was born nearly 2 years after the 1948 Costa Rica civil war. When he moved up to the United States not only did he have to redo the end of high school but he barely spoke any English. This led to him failing the first semester. He had to fight for his scholarship that was denied to him because he wasn’t a US citizen. He worked very hard on his research for years and eventually got a spot being an astronaut.
