Violence Theme

- We're gonna do you a favor,greaser. We're gonna cut all that long greasy hair off.
- In chapter one Pony is walking back from a movie and he gets jumped by socs and one of them threatens him by saying "Need a haircut, greaser?" and by pulling out a knife on pg. 5. This shows the theme of violence because Pony gets threatened with a knife.
- In chapter 2 the greasers found johnny on the ground, bloody. He explained how the socs jumped him while he was alone. This beating is what caused Johnny to be so scared ll the time. Pg. 30 "It wasn't just that they had beaten him half to death--- he could take that. They had scared him." This shows violence because the socs beat Johnny up.
- After Johnny dies Ponyboy starts acting tougher and when some socs show up where he is he breaks off the end of a bottle to defend himself as it states on pg. 145 "I busted the end off my bottle and held on to the neck and tossed away my cigarette" This is an example of violence because Pony would have badly hurt the socs if they tried to fight him.
- On page 44 Darry and pony get into a fight and Darry hits Ponyboy. Pg. 44 "Darry wheeled around and slapped me sohard that it knocked me against the door." This shows violence because no one in Ponyboys family had ever hurt him.
- On pg. 49 Johnny kills a soc. "Bob, the handsome Soc, was lying there in the moonlight, doubled up and still." This represents violence because First the soc was trying to drown Pony and then Johnny stabbed him. These are both very violent things.
- On pg. 123 during the big rumble Pony was knocked to the ground and a soc kept kicking him very hard . "Some Soc had knocked out one of our bunch and was kicking me as hard as he could." This shows the theme of violence because the soc was hurting Pony
