  • -Sanaz, a student of Nafisi is heading home from Azar Nafisi's house and is saying her goodbyes while wearing clothes that is forbidden in public of their city. This includes colored items like shirt, jeans/pants, or having ones hair be shown, jewelry, makeup, painted nails, or any clothing that shows skin-
  • -Sanza heads out the house fully covering her hair, clothes, jewelry, and any skin that may be from shoulders to feet.-
  • Hopefully I'm fully covered and don't get caught breaking the dress code
  • VEILING IS A WOMAN'S PROTECTIONS
  • -Militia (armed forces) are patrolling in white Toyotas , making sure women are wearing their veils properly, wearing the appropriate clothing attire given by the government, that they are not wearing makeup, and are not walking in public with men who are not their fathers, brothers, or husbands.

  • -Those specifically women, who disobey the law are put into jail, hit, fined, are forced to clean toilets, and humiliated. People are forced to be silent by the government keeping them from talking about what's right and wrong-

  • How did it get to this?
  • -Women and men who weren't married, siblings, or fathers and daughters were not allowed to be seen together alone in public, but in buses and taxies, they were squished together in small seating which the author referred to them as sardines, but this would often cause women to be harassed by others-
  • -Sanza compares her situation with her mother's when she was the same age, she starts to question whether if the government is right and she's wrong and starts to and thinks about how back in her mothers day they were given the right to walk freely without these very strict rules given by the government .-
  • Back when my mother was my age she had rights...She could choose any jobs she liked, and had more freedom when walking on the street with the opposite sex
