- Opening: Hello, today we are here to inform you on the histories disease; the Bubonic Plague
- The bubonic plague was a devastating global pandemic that struck Asia and Europe in the mid 1300s. The plague arrived in Europe in October 1347.
- The plague was caused by 12 ships from the Black Sea docked at the Sicilian port of Messina.
- To summarize, the plague is basically a bacterial disease that is transmitted by flees. The bubonic plague is caused by the bacteria Yersinia pestis.
- Symptoms from this disease could be a fever, chills, headache, fatigue, and muscle aches.
- Ways that this got treated were rubbing onions, herbs or a chopped up snake (if available) on the boils or cutting up a pigeon and rubbing it over an infected body. Drinking vinegar, eating crushed minerals, arsenic, mercury or even ten-year-old treacle!
- Since 2000, the CDC has received reports of one to 17 cases of the plague per year. In 2015, 16 cases of plague were reported and, in 2016, there were only 4 cases. This is proof that the plague is not very common.
