- Introduced as the main character, Ponyboy Curtis was going to the movies. While leaving the movies, the Socs, a rival gang, attempted to jump Ponyboy. Ponyboy was rescued by a Greaser, his gang. These were the two different social classes. EXPOSITION
- NO!
- "We're gonna do you a favor,greaser. We're gonna cut all that long greasy hair off."
- The upper class gang who thought they were better than the lower class gang and seemed to fight every chance they got.  The Socs were the upper class and the Greasers were the lower class. The Socs took every chance they got to jump the Greasers. This conflict continues throughout as Ponyboy tries to make sense of it all. CONFLICT
- "You know what a Soc is?" I said, my voice shaking with rage. "White trash withMustangs and madras."
- The ongoing conflict between the rival gangs ends up fatal. As Ponyboy is almost drowned by the Socs, Johnny jumps in to save him. He pulls out a switchblade and kills Bob. They go on the run.  A church fire is started. There are children in the church. Johnny saves the children in the church but also gets injured by doing so. Society still does not accept the Greasers. Johnny eventually succumbs to his  injuries from the fire and dies. RISING ACTION AND CLIMAX
- "I killed him," he said slowly. "I killed that boy."
- "I bet we started it," I said to Johnny. "We must have dropped a lighted cigaretteor something."
- Ponyboy  was beside himself that his friends were dead. There was a huge rumble between the Socs and the Greasers and Dallas. So now Dallas and Johnny were dead. Ponyboy had been knocked unconscious and had woken several days after at home. He ended up reconciling with his brother. FALLING ACTION
- "Where'd I get a concussion?" I said. My head itched, but I couldn't scratch it forthe bandage. "How long have I been asleep?"
- In  the end, the Greasers beat the Socs and the rivalry ended.  Ponyboy was acquitted of Bob's murder after the judge closed the case. Johnny finally starts to heal from the emotional and physical trauma of all of it.  Johnny called his English teacher because he wanted to share with hundreds of boys the good in the world. Johnny was on a path to healing and had also resolved his own personal conflict.RESOLUTION
- "Can it be longer?"
- "Certainly, Ponyboy, as long as you want it."
