Today we are going to learn about how to factor.
What is Factoring?
6x2+5x-4
Factoring is when you break down an equation into smaller numbers that equal that equation when multiplied.
What is Factoring?
6x2+5x-4
Once you finish breaking down the equation you will end up with something like this (x+a)(x+b)
X Method
6x2+5x-4
How to Do the X Method
6x2+5x-4
The Answer
6x2+5x-4
In order to solve this problem we are going to use something call the X method
6x2+5x-4 can be seen as ax^2+bx+c, so 6 is a, 5 is b and -4 is c. For the top part of X you would do a x c. For the bottom part you would put b. For the sides you would figure out which numbers multiply to a x c, but also add up to b. Once you get the numbers you divide it by a. You will get a fraction which you have to flip over to get your final answer.
Answer: (3x-4)(2x-1)
8/6 = 4/3
5
6 x -4 = -24
-3/6 = 1/2
The answer is just a broken-down version of the original equation or polynomial.
So when 6x2+5x-4 is factored or broken down, it equals (3x-4)(2x-1).
