  • Hi everyone! Welcome to my group's presentation on the 'Social-Emotional Development of Gifted Learners'.
  • Today, we are going to answer the two questions posed, in the form of story telling. Let's begin!
  • My name is Davendra Samaroo. My group consist of: Sacha Badrie, Nikeisha Bahadur and Neisha Harrynanan
  • Naturally people want to develop friendships and relationships with other persons and this is also the same for individuals who are gifted.
  • Gifted individuals are seen by others in society as antisocial and persons who don’t know how to interact in social settings.
  • That’s not always the case as regular individuals sometimes have problems socializing and not all gifted learners have difficulties and may make friends easily.
  • This reminds me of a story of two girls.
  • First let's talk about Raven. Raven is a gifted learner who taught herself to read and write simple words before the age of 2. At age 4 she was able to do addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.
  • 12+22=
  • Then there was Emily, a typical learner who couldn’t read at age 2 but was able to follow along with pictures and at age 4, she wasn’t able to do maths but was very talkative and sociable with whomever she met.
  • I need to pay attention to what miss is saying
  • Upon entering primary school. Raven had no problems communicating with her classmates or teacher, but she was still unable to make any friends.
  • She would go home and complain to her parents and sometimes she would not go to school for a couple of days, sometimes even a week at a time.
  • Her classmates did not like that she knew more than them and her interests were completely different from theirs’.
  • Mommy, I hate school!
  • It's okay, Raven. Mommy's here.
  • ZZzzz
  • Not only was she unhappy that she had no friends but she was unhappy and bored during class because there wasn’t anything new for her to learn.
  • This was not the case for Emily when she entered primary school.
  • She was not at the top of her class, she performed at the average range consistently.
  • However, Emily was an attentive learner, the curriculum challenged her.
  • Heyyyy! I will!
  • Unlike Raven, she had no problems making friends and got along fine with all her classmates.
  • You can see my dog Saturday!
  • If Luke gets up on time!
