- The story is about a boy named Stanley Yelnats (Caveman). He gets sent to Camp Green Lake for 18 months for stealing shoes. Stanley's family is cursed because his great-grandfather broke his promise to the fortune teller. He meets a friend named Hector (Zero) at camp.
- Rising Action
- Get back here with the water truck, Stanley!
- The boys have to dig holes all day long for their punishment at Camp Green Lake. One day, Stanley found a gold lipstick tube with initials "K.B." on it. He finds out that the warden is related to Kate Barlow, so he thinks the lipstick tube may belong to her family.
- Climax
- Stanley gets into a fight with Zig Zag. Hector comes to help him. Later, Hector gets mad at Mr. Pendanski and hits him with a shovel. He runs away from camp. The warden and the kids think that Hector is going to die in the desert.
- Falling Action/ Resolution
- Stanley wants to help his friend Hector. He steals the water truck from Mr. Sir and crashes it. He runs into the desert to find Hector. The warden, Mr. Sir, and Mr. Pendanski think that Stanley will die.
- Stanley finally finds Hector in the middle of the desert. They were both very hungry and thirsty. They find God's Thumb and Stanley carries Hector to the top of the mountain. They find water and onions to eat. The curse was solved.
- Stanley finds out that Hector was the one who stole Clyde Livingston's shoes. They decide to go back to Camp Green Lake to dig for treasure. They find a treasure chest. They get out of camp, the warden gets arrested, and the camp is shut down. Stanley's dad invented a new shoe deodorant.
