  • Jefferson Davis' school educated all his slaves. The school made Isaiah a civil engineer and Isaiah Montgomery his bookkeeper. There were also farmers, carpenters, sawmills, gins and other paths available in the vocational school. All slaves on the 5 plantations that Davis owned could get a formal education. When they got free, they could take care of themselves.
