At the castle an officer named Bernardo comes to relieve the watchman which was named Fransisco.
. It was pitch black that night, the men could not see each other. In the darkness, Bernardo hears a footstep near him and cries out "Who's there?".
The men after checking that both men were also watchman relax. Francisco Thanks Bernardo and heads on his way to go home and get some rest.
Shortley After Bernardo was joined by Marcellus another watchman and Horatio. The watchman encouraged Horatio to stay and watch with them because they had something shocking to show.
The two men started to tell Horatio about their encounters with a ghost for the past 2 days. The men said the ghost looked like the now deceased king Hamlet. Horatio was skeptical of their story until the ghost appears out of thin air. Horatio sees the resemblance of the king.
Horatio thinks this might be a sign of war and tries to talk to the ghost, but no replies and then before they know it he disapears right at dawn. Horatio tells the men they should consider telling prince Hamlet which would be the king's son.
