  • #1 Overproduction
  • #2 Variation
  • #3 Environment
  • Tropical Fish come into the pacific ocean around early 1987. The tropical fish’s genes include having a dominant allele for the red color trait and a recessive allele for the yellow color trait. They end up overproducing because they lost a lot of their population while coming to the pacific ocean so they now have to produce more of themselves.
  • #4 Struggle
  • The two Tropical Fish overproduce to try to regain their lost population numbers. While doing this though because of the different types of dominant and recessive alleles it causes the first to vary in trait color. Most fish end up being red but there were a couple of yellow fishes as well.
  • #5 Selection
  • A group of sharks that had been inhabiting this ocean for over 5 years sees this group of tropical fish. The shark sees the red fishes as less intimidated to them than the yellow fishes so they purposely hunt them down instead. The sharks favored the red fished over the yellow ones.
  • #6 Differential Reproduction
  • The sharks were drawn towards the red-colored trait fish more than the yellow because they saw them as the weaker of the two types of tropical fish. The tropical fish then come to a realization that they have to develop a structural adaptation, being that their fish color changes throughout time.
  • The tropical fish are now mostly yellow colored trait but because they still carry the dominant allele for red color the red colored tropical fish will not disappear from the group. There will just be fewer and fewer red-colored trait tropical fishes throughout the years.
  • The yellow fishes have reproductive success by not being hunted by the sharks because they were intimidating. This causes them to not have to worry about sharks and focus on eating their prey, the minapeads letting them reproduce. While the red fishes have to live in fear all the time of being hunted and killed by the sharks allowing them to rarely be able to get out of their house and gather resources. This causes the red fish to not have reproductive success.
