- Tensions had been building between the 13 colonies and the British for many years in Massachusetts. The night of April 18, 1775, hundreds of British troops marched from Boston to nearby Concord in order to seize an arms cache. A conflict on the Lexington town green started the fighting. The British were quickly retreating from intense fire. Many battles continued but finally in 1783 the colonists won their independence.
- George Washington and his junior General Charles Lee, attacked the British Army. Lee was removed from command. The delay of the Lee actions gave time for the rest of the Continental Army to come up and join the battle. The British right forced the Redcoats to fall back. By 6:00 P.M. The British felt that they had enough and fell back but they still didn't give Washington a chance to regain strength so he hid.
- Battle of the MONMOUTH COURTHOUSE
- The battle of Yorktown was the last battle of the American Revolutionary War. General Nathanael Greene had taken over control of the American Continental Army in the South. The British Army was surrounded at Yorktown. They were outnumbered by the French and American troops. For eleven days the American forces shelled the British. Finally Cornwallis sent out the white flag for surrender. On October 19, 1781 General Cornwallis signed the British surrender. The document was called the Articles of Capitulation.
